Selma Blair’s attorneys attribute her alleged midair outburst on a Delta flight to missed multiple sclerosis medication, exhaustion, and a recent head injury.

A medical emergency involving missed medication and physical trauma allegedly triggered Selma Blair’s disruptive behavior during a Delta Air Lines flight bound for John F. Kennedy Airport, according to statements issued by her legal representatives. The defense team asserts that the actress suffered from severe disorientation caused by these compounding health issues while airborne.
Reports indicate that Blair attempted to open an aircraft door while the plane was in transit. Following this action, she reportedly engaged in physical altercations with airline personnel. One flight attendant was allegedly punched, and another was bitten. Both crew members required medical attention after the aircraft landed.
Blair appeared before a New York court on Monday, October 12, facing two counts of second-degree assault. Her attorneys, Shawn Barnes and Joshua Reitzas, presented arguments suggesting that specific circumstances contributed to the alleged conduct. They cited a combination of factors, including an exhausting work schedule and travel from Los Angeles to New York.
Citing Page Six, Barnes stated that Blair had failed to take several doses of her multiple sclerosis medication. He further noted that she had recently fallen and struck her head. "These factors coupled with the altitude, resulted in a state of severe confusion and disorientation," Barnes said. He emphasized that the actions were not intentional assaults.
Reitzas requested that the judge weigh Blair’s professional accomplishments, referring to his client as “the gold standard.” Judge Indira Khan rejected this appeal, stating, “Ms. Blair should not get special treatment because she is a celebrity.”
The court set bail at $20,000 cash, $60,000 bond, or a $60,000 partially secured bond. Blair entered a plea of not guilty and was subsequently released. The case has been adjourned until January 19, 2027.
Authorities are currently investigating the incident. The FBI and Federal Aviation Administration have launched inquiries into the events aboard the flight. Additionally, E! News reported allegations that Blair kicked a Port Authority police officer after landing. According to documents, the officer was securing Blair on a stretcher when she removed her leg and struck him repeatedly in the neck, chest, and face.
