Speculation regarding the next James Bond casting intensified after actor Jack Lowden responded to comments made by Gary Oldman. The Slow Horses star addressed reports linking him to the role, noting that while he found the attention flattering, he intended to remain silent on the matter.

Lowden’s response to Bond chatter

In an interview with GQ, Lowden fielded questions about Oldman’s public support for his potential appointment as 007. Oldman had previously stated he heard the next Bond was already chosen and expressed hope that Lowden would secure the part. This endorsement amplified discussions surrounding the Scottish actor’s candidacy.

“On this… It’s all very flattering,” Lowden said during the conversation. He acknowledged it was nice to be mentioned for any role but emphasized his reluctance to engage further. “I’m just not really going to add to the noise,” he stated, describing Oldman as a sweetheart whose praise held significant weight given Lowden’s admiration for him.

Patterns in casting speculation

Lowden observed that rumors often follow specific trajectories for young male actors. He noted that once an actor moves away from playing zany artist types and appears in a suit, speculation frequently follows. Despite these patterns, he redirected focus toward his ongoing projects rather than hypothetical future roles.

The actor currently portrays River Cartwright in Apple TV+’s series Slow Horses. Will Smith, the show’s creator, praised Lowden’s performance, calling him “the full package” due to his skill in action, comedy, and emotional depth. Lowden also spoke highly of working with Oldman, characterizing his co-star as routinely the most prepared actor and admiring his professionalism and lack of self-importance.

Upcoming Netflix adaptation

Beyond the current series, Lowden is set to appear in Netflix’s Pride and Prejudice adaptation. He will play Mr. Darcy opposite Emma Corrin. The actor revealed initial hesitation about taking the role, citing Jane Austen’s work as precious to him. His recent comments neither confirmed nor denied involvement in the Bond casting process, leaving the speculation unresolved.
