A Wizz Air flight experienced a security alert on Monday after the aircraft was forced to change its course and land in the Hungarian capital, Budapest, amid reports of receiving a bomb threat on board.

According to information published by the Hungarian newspaper "Kisalföld," the flight was traveling from London to Sofia, the capital of Bulgaria, aboard an Airbus A321neo operated by Wizz Air.

The plane changed its course toward Budapest while flying over Bosnia and Herzegovina, before landing safely at the Hungarian capital's airport at 12:08 PM local time.

Firefighting and emergency teams were waiting for the plane upon its arrival, where it stopped in a designated area for security inspection.

Reports and circulating information in specialized aviation tracking groups indicated that the diversion may have been caused by receiving a bomb threat on board the aircraft.

However, the Hungarian newspaper confirmed that this information had not been officially verified at the time of publishing its report.

The second runway at Budapest Airport was also temporarily closed, and air traffic was diverted to the other runway.
