Katy Perry discusses the emotional struggles that inspired her upcoming single "Watch It Burn" during a recent podcast interview.

During a recent episode of the Unfamous podcast with Justin Tranter, Katy Perry revealed that her upcoming single "Watch It Burn" stems from a period of personal hardship. The singer described the song as emerging from "a place of vulnerability, intention, and emotional truth."
On June 17, Katy Perry spoke about "Watch It Burn," set for release on June 26, explaining that the track was motivated by painful experiences she endured. She stated, “In Watch It Burn, I am wrestling with my darkness,” while also noting that she “don’t typically feel like a victim.”
She acknowledged that the previous year was difficult and admitted it would have been easy to fall into a victim mindset, which she usually does not identify with. Perry shared that she was prepared to confront her pain and anger directly, saying, “Let’s get some feedback from it. Let’s apply it,” and emphasized the importance of learning from the experience.
Regarding the structure of the song, Perry explained it consists of two parts: the first involves being "vocal enough to acknowledge" her struggles, and the second involves being "courageous enough to share it with the world," as reported by PEOPLE. On June 16, she previewed "Watch It Burn" on Instagram with a video featuring herself wielding a baseball bat.
While Perry did not specify the exact reasons behind the difficulties she faced last year, it is known that she ended her engagement to actor Orlando Bloom in 2025 after nearly ten years together. The couple shares a daughter named Daisy Dove.
