His last acting role was in the 2022 British crime drama series Strike, based on the Cormoran Strike novels by J.K. Rowling, who writes under the pseudonym Robert Galbraith. Byrne portrayed the character Roy Phipps in the series, which follows detective Cormoran Strike as he investigates a case involving a missing woman’s mother.
Byrne’s acting career began in the 1960s with appearances in The Scarlet Blade, The Silent Playground, and The Image. He gained wider recognition in the 1970s through various military roles.
