Royal journalists state Meghan Markle left the UK for a scheduled school holiday, dismissing claims her exit was linked to her father’s investigation.

The departure of Meghan Markle from the United Kingdom coincided with heightened media attention regarding her estranged father, Thomas Markle. Royal journalist Andrea Caamano characterized this timing as “coincidental,” explicitly rejecting the notion that the Duchess fled due to the controversy surrounding him.
Markle had already departed Britain alongside Prince Harry and their children for the October school break prior to the intensification of headlines. While multiple royal commentators anticipated the family’s return shortly after the initial reports emerged, Thomas Markle remained under investigation in the Philippines and continued to deny the allegations against him.
Citing Page Six, Caamano dismissed narratives suggesting an escape from scrutiny. “I wouldn’t describe Meghan as having fled the UK following the allegations against her father,” she stated. The journalist noted that news broke while the Sussexes were already abroad for half-term, observing that some British schools observe a “two-week break in the UK.” Consequently, she described the timing as “coincidental rather than a deliberate decision to escape the headlines.”
Kinsey Schofield suggested the family might simply be utilizing the school holiday to spend time together while “allowing some of the controversy to settle.” Neither commentator predicted a prolonged retreat from public life. Schofield estimated the absence might last “about as long as the children’s half-term holiday.” Caamano expected Meghan and Prince Harry to return to the U.K. by week’s end, adding, “I don’t anticipate this becoming a prolonged retreat from public life.”
Caamano highlighted ongoing promotional activities, including Meghan’s As Ever holiday launches, summarizing the outlook as “keep calm and carry on.” Schofield similarly saw no intention of “abandoning their ambitions in Britain,” describing the trip as a “convenient opportunity to let the headlines cool down.”
Separately, Philippine authorities are investigating Thomas Markle over alleged possession of child sexual abuse images. Justice Undersecretary Nicholas Ty confirmed his task force “is currently investigating the matter.” Thomas denied the allegations, labeling them “sick lies.”
Meghan described the reports as “deeply distressing” and expressed her thoughts were with “any children who may have been harmed.” In a statement to Newsweek, the “Suits” alum addressed her distance from her father, stating that preventing contact with her children was “for one reason: to protect them.” These confirmed statements remained distinct from the reported timing of the family’s U.K. exit.
