Egyptian artist Sabreen disclosed details regarding her family’s reaction to her decision to stop wearing the hijab. She explained that her brother initially reacted with anger before eventually reconciling with her. The actress also discussed the internal struggles she faced while wearing a wig as an alternative to the headscarf, alongside the online backlash triggered by her choice.

The Decision to Remove the Hijab

In televised remarks, Sabreen stated that she had expressed her desire to remove the hijab for two years but consistently postponed the final decision. She described feeling pressured on both a personal and professional level during this period. At the time, she was participating in a comedy series and was surprised by comments focusing on her appearance in a wig.

She noted receiving harsh criticism for performing comedic roles while wearing the accessory, which she found provocative. Consequently, Sabreen decided to stop pretending contrary to her true feelings, stating she could not live in a state of self-deception. She acknowledged that she continues to face strong judgments and criticism on social media platforms.

Family Reaction and Reconciliation

Sabreen recalled the immediate aftermath of publishing her first photo without the hijab, identifying the reactions of her mother and brother as unforgettable moments. Her brother expressed his anger through a message sent to the family group chat, writing: "O Allah, I have conveyed, so O Allah, bear witness." He referenced potential consequences regarding her relationship with God and her children.

Upon reading the message, Sabreen chose to leave the family group, an action she described as unusual for her. This departure signaled to the rest of the family how deeply affected she was by the situation. Her mother subsequently intervened to speak with the family members.

That evening, her brother approached her and embraced her. He clarified that the matter of the hijab was between her and God, affirming that the family loved and respected her. He stated he did not want anyone to speak ill of her, emphasizing that the family had always been proud of her. He assured her that his stance would remain unchanged regardless of whether she wore the hijab or removed it, concluding the dispute by reiterating his pride in having her as a sister.

Psychological Impact of Wearing a Wig

Sabreen elaborated on the period when she wore a wig instead of the hijab, describing it as a time of significant psychological disturbance. She felt she had lost part of her nature and tended toward withdrawal, living in a constant state of fear. She reported anxiety about people’s gazes and comments while walking in public streets.

Specifically, she feared being called "Oh, wig woman," which heightened her tension during that phase. Despite these challenges, Sabreen affirmed that her faith in God served as her source of strength. She revealed that after removing the hijab, she experienced greater fear but simultaneously increased her obedience and dedication to prayer.

The artist stressed that her personal transformation did not distance her from religious practices. According to her statements, her commitment to prayer intensified, and her faith became stronger amidst the pressures and criticisms surrounding her experience.
