Savannah Guthrie missed her second consecutive day on the Today Show on July 9, as her mother, Nancy Guthrie, aged 84, remains unaccounted for. Laura Jarrett co-anchored alongside Craig Melvin, following Sheinelle Jones’s appearance during the July 8 broadcast.

Details on Guthrie’s absence from Today Show

While no formal statement has been issued regarding Savannah Guthrie’s absence, TMZ indicates that the 54-year-old anchor has temporarily stepped away from her hosting responsibilities to focus on her family. This break is not connected to the ongoing investigation into her mother’s disappearance.

The decision comes after criticism targeted at Today Show producers for assigning Guthrie to cover a story about a missing individual. On the July 6 episode, she reported on the rescue of Rondy Packard, a 70-year-old man who had been lost in the California wilderness for six days before being found alive.

Guthrie, who had taken nearly two months off following her mother’s disappearance and returned to the program on April 6, addressed the situation on July 1 during an interview with KOLD 13 News: “There is not a moment that goes by that we aren’t actively trying to find our mom. We thank the people of Tucson for holding her in their hearts, as well as both the FBI and the Pima County Sheriff’s Office for their tireless work on behalf of our family. Bring her home.”

Nancy Guthrie was last seen on the evening of January 31 after returning from a family dinner in the Catalina Foothills near Tucson, Arizona. Surveillance footage captured a masked person near her residence, and authorities found her blood at the scene. No suspect has been identified to date. The family has offered a $1 million reward for information, supplemented by an additional $100,000 reward from the FBI, as reported by the BBC.
