On May 16, Taylor Swift appeared in Brooklyn wearing a jewelry set valued at $125,000 that once belonged to Elizabeth Taylor. The suite, which included chandelier earrings, a ring, and a bracelet, was crafted from 22K yellow gold featuring black opals and Australian crystal.

Elizabeth Taylor’s Assistant Details Actress’s Affection for the Opals

According to People, Taylor wore the opal pieces during a date night with Travis Kelce at Honey’s cocktail bar in Williamsburg. Tim Mendelson, Elizabeth Taylor’s longtime assistant, revealed that the jewelry was discovered at Crystalarium in West Hollywood during a shopping trip in 1999. Mendelson noted that Elizabeth Taylor had an affinity for opals but was particularly drawn to these because the stones had formed inside a clam and retained its shape.

Elizabeth Taylor wore the opals at the 1999 Project Angel Food Angel Award ceremony in Los Angeles, where she was honored for her advocacy work related to HIV and AIDS. At the same event, she also wore an opal necklace she personally designed, which incorporated a tiny starfish from her granddaughter as inspiration. Jeweler David Webb later crafted the final pendant based on this concept.

The opal pieces were initially sold at Christie’s auction in 2011 for $6,000 and subsequently sold for $125,000 in late 2025. Taylor Swift has acknowledged Elizabeth Taylor as a muse, telling The New York Times that the actress was a champion for artists’ rights. Neil Zevnik, Elizabeth Taylor’s chef, remarked that Swift’s homage would have likely earned her an invitation to Easter celebrations.
