Trump slams Bill Maher as 'drunk' and 'total loser'
President Donald Trump launched a scathing attack on comedian Bill Maher via Truth Social, labeling him a liar and claiming he was intoxicated during a recent White House dinner.

A 1,322-word post published on Sunday by President Donald Trump targeted comedian Bill Maher with severe personal insults, including accusations of dishonesty and intoxication. The Republican leader described the Real Time host as a “COMPLETE AND TOTAL LOSER” and alleged that Maher appeared “drunk” while holding alcohol during his October 15 visit to the White House. This digital assault follows a period of public boasting by the 70-year-old entertainer regarding his second invitation to dine with the 80-year-old president.
Details of the White House Dinner
Maher had previously dined with Trump in March 2025 before returning for the recent four-hour event, which also featured MAGA rapper Kid Rock and sports commentator Stephen A. Smith. During the interim, the comedian promoted his access to the executive mansion on social media, stating, “Yeah I did it again, b---hes!” He further remarked on his show, “You know what, f--- you. I like these dinners,” after receiving a tour of the site designated for Trump’s vanity ballroom.
Trump contradicted Maher’s account of the evening’s duration and atmosphere in his online statement. The president asserted that the meeting lasted “two hours, maybe less,” rather than the claimed four hours, and characterized the interaction as a “waste of time.” He noted, “I learned nothing,” and emphasized that timestamps would verify his version of events. Additionally, Trump recalled that Maher’s team contacted him ten times to arrange the second dinner, a claim that contrasts with Maher’s earlier assertion on his Club Random podcast that the initiative came from the president via text message.
Accusations of Deception and Insecurity
The presidential tirade focused heavily on Maher’s professional conduct and physical appearance. Trump questioned the authenticity of audience reactions on the comedian’s program, asking, “what Laughter Machine does he use?” He stated that people “can’t think he’s funny” despite the applause. Regarding the first meeting in 2025, Trump claimed Kid Rock called him “incessantly” about introducing the two men. The president described Maher as “very nervous” and “very insecure” at that initial encounter, noting a “seriously bruised eye and nose area, as though somebody had just beaten him up - But it wasn’t me!”
Trump expressed frustration over continued mockery from the comedian following the second dinner. He accused Maher of being “gutless” because he “enjoyed every minute” of the visit despite later criticizing the administration. The president directly addressed the entertainer, writing, “Bill: Don’t call anymore. It’s useless.” He labeled Maher a “coward” and a “hopeless guy,” warning that Republicans would cease discussing him as a transformative figure. “You’re not transformative, you’re a Loser!” Trump declared.
Political Context and Public Comments
Prior to the Truth Social outburst, Maher used his Friday broadcast to criticize Trump’s political standing. The comedian cited polling data suggesting the president held “the lowest approval rating of any midterm candidate ever” and noted that only one percent of Republicans mentioned him in their advertisements. Maher joked that billboards outside rallies now read “Lee Greenwood and Friends.”
Maher also mocked Trump’s comments regarding Senator Jon Husted, saying, “It’s just a little odd that Trump keeps gushing about men’s bodies—and how handsome they are, and their jawlines, and their asses, their physiques.” He added, “I’m a little hurt. I was there for dinner for four hours last week, and not a peep. Nothing.” Earlier, Trump had told reporters the dinner “was great” and that guests “had a good time,” asserting that Maher “likes me a lot more than people understand.”
The Daily Beast reached out to the White House and representatives for Maher for comment on the exchange. The publication maintains its subscription services, offering various tiers of access to its content, including ad-free newsletters and premium reading features.
