Brazilian bride dies of shrimp allergy during Portugal honeymoon
Amanda Nascimento, 29, died from anaphylaxis after eating shrimp in Leiria, Portugal, just 11 days after her wedding.

The first days of a honeymoon ended in tragedy for a Brazilian bride who died following a severe allergic reaction to shrimp. The incident occurred only 11 days after Amanda Nascimento celebrated her wedding ceremony.
Details of the fatal meal
Nascimento, aged 29, was traveling through Europe with her husband, Thiago Nascimento, as part of their long-planned post-wedding trip. Their final destination was the Portuguese city of Leiria. While dining at a local restaurant, the couple ordered a dish that included shrimp and other seafood. Nascimento believed the meal consisted solely of fish, based on information she had previously gathered from the restaurant staff.
Rapid medical deterioration
Approximately two hours after consuming the food, while the pair were walking through the city, Nascimento suddenly developed symptoms of anaphylaxis. She was urgently transported to the Hospital de Leiria for immediate care. As her condition worsened, medical personnel decided to transfer her to the University Hospital of Coimbra to access more specialized treatment.
Her health declined rapidly during the transit between facilities. Nascimento suffered cardiac arrest before reaching the hospital in Coimbra. The return journey to Brazil, scheduled for just a few days later, turned into a mourning period for her family and husband.
Professional background
Before the trip, Nascimento worked as a nurse in an intensive care unit at a hospital in Brazil. The wedding took place shortly before the couple departed for their European honeymoon.
