Bulgarian Botev Plovdiv owner Ilian Filipov shot dead in city

Ilian Filipov, a prominent Bulgarian businessman and the largest shareholder of football club Botev Plovdiv, was killed by gunfire in the city of Plovdiv during the early hours of Wednesday morning. The incident was reported by BNR radio and other local media outlets.

Details of the fatal shooting

Filipov, who owns PIMK, one of Bulgaria’s largest transport and logistics companies, was shot at approximately 1:00 AM local time inside a property he owned in the city. According to preliminary information conveyed by investigative bodies through local media, the businessman suffered a sudden attack and was struck directly in the head by the fatal bullet.

Bulgarian authorities immediately launched an investigation into the killing. Police announced the closure of main entry and exit points leading to and from Plovdiv. Vanya Hristeva, the prosecutor general in Plovdiv, stated during a press conference that investigators are pursuing all leads and potential hypotheses.
