Egyptian Police Kill Five High-Risk Suspects in Anti-Drug Raids Across

Egyptian security forces killed five high-risk criminal suspects during armed confrontations in three separate provinces—Qena, Asyut, and Sohag—according to a Saturday statement issued by the Ministry of Interior.

Targeted Operations Against Drug and Arms Trafficking Networks

The ministry stated the operations formed part of an ongoing effort to dismantle criminal hubs involved in smuggling, trafficking, and distribution of narcotics and unlicensed firearms. Investigations conducted jointly by the General Security Sector and the Narcotics Control and Unlicensed Weapons and Ammunition Department had identified multiple such hubs operating across the three provinces.

Authorities said the suspects were engaged in acquiring large quantities of narcotics and unlicensed firearms in preparation for trafficking. Following completion of all required legal procedures, security campaigns were launched with participation from the Central Security Sector.

Fatal Confrontations and Legal Background of the Suspects

The resulting security confrontations led to the deaths of five individuals described by the ministry as “high-risk criminal elements.” All five had previously been charged and sentenced—including to life imprisonment—in criminal cases involving murder, narcotics trafficking, illegal possession of firearms, and robbery under duress.

According to official figures released by the ministry, the operations yielded more than one ton of assorted narcotics. Authorities also seized 122 unlicensed firearms of various types. The estimated monetary value of the confiscated narcotics alone was pegged at EGP 192 million.

Continuation of Broader Security Strategy

The Interior Ministry emphasized that these operations are part of its sustained nationwide security initiative aimed at dismantling organized crime cells, targeting individuals involved in narcotics and unlicensed firearms trafficking, and countering criminal activities that pose a threat to public safety.
