Dozens of prisoners in Building "B" at Roumieh Central Prison held a protest sit-in in the building's courtyard, rejecting the ongoing delay in implementing the general amnesty law and the failure of prison administrations to release those covered by its provisions. This occurred amid rising tension inside Lebanese prisons, particularly following the death of one prisoner two days ago.

The prisoners expressed their welcome for the Syrian authorities' start in implementing the Lebanese general amnesty law and releasing a number of Syrian prisoners covered by its provisions, who were recently transferred to Syria under the judicial agreement signed between the two countries. At the same time, they expressed bewilderment at the continued delay in implementing the law within Lebanon, despite it being issued by Lebanese authorities, without prison administrations having yet begun releasing those benefiting from its provisions.

The protesters affirmed that their action aimed to convey their voice to relevant authorities, protesting the continued stalling in implementing the law, and demanded accelerating its application and ending the suffering of prisoners and their families.

The sit-in ended after the prisoners received promises from the prison administration to transfer their demands to the competent authorities, calling for the acceleration of the implementation of the general amnesty law.
