Pakistani Cargo Plane Lost Over Arabian Sea

Communication was lost with a cargo aircraft operated by Pakistan's K2 Airways while flying from Sharjah to Karachi. The plane was carrying five crew members when it encountered an incident over the Arabian Sea.

The Pakistan Airports Authority reported that the Boeing 737 aircraft notified Karachi's air traffic control center at 9:18 p.m. about a malfunction in its navigation system. Radar screens then recorded a rapid descent and an abrupt change in the plane's course before contact was lost approximately 155 nautical miles west of Karachi.

Following the incident, authorities activated the rescue coordination center and launched an extensive search operation in the Arabian Sea. The effort involved the Civil Aviation Authority, Pakistan Navy, Pakistan Air Force, and a vessel from the Pakistan National Shipping Corporation.
