The US Navy has suspended active search efforts for a missing sailor following an MH-60S helicopter crash in the Arabian Sea on July 1, 2026.

The United States Navy announced on Sunday the suspension of active search operations for a sailor who went missing after a helicopter crashed in the Arabian Sea earlier this week.
According to a statement posted on its X account, the Navy declared that it halted active search efforts for the sailor from the Fifth Marine Combat Helicopter Squadron (HSC 5), based aboard the aircraft carrier USS George H.W. Bush (CVN 77), effective 3:00 p.m. Atlantic Time on July 5, 2026.
The statement detailed that the sailor was reported missing on July 1 following the crash of an MH-60S helicopter in the Arabian Sea. The search concluded after an extensive operation conducted by the US Navy and US Air Force within the US Central Command's area of responsibility. The sailor’s name will be withheld for at least 24 hours after family notification, in accordance with Navy policy.
The Navy highlighted that the search and rescue operation spanned over 102 hours and covered an area exceeding 14,000 square miles.
Participating assets in the search included the aircraft carrier USS George H.W. Bush, Marine Attack Helicopter Squadron (HSM) 46, fixed-wing aircraft, helicopter squadrons HSC 14 and HSM 71, guided-missile destroyers of the Arleigh Burke class USS Ross (DDG 71), USS Donald Cook (DDG 75), USS Higgins (DDG 76), USS Mason (DDG 87), USS John Finn (DDG 113) with HSM 51, two squadrons of P-8 Poseidon aircraft, and multiple US Air Force planes.
Earlier on Wednesday, the US Fifth Fleet issued a statement confirming that search efforts were underway for a crew member of a military helicopter that made an emergency landing in the Arabian Sea. The statement noted that three of the four crew members were recovered and were in stable condition.
The Fifth Fleet also stated that it is investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident and confirmed there was no indication that the helicopter’s emergency landing resulted from hostile action.
