A 1.5-kilogram amber piece named "Jubilee" was extracted in Kaliningrad, Russia, marking a rare find linked to the region's 80th anniversary.

The media office of the Russian state corporation "Rostec" announced the discovery of a unique amber piece weighing 1.5 kilograms in the Kaliningrad region.
This amber, estimated to be around 40 million years old, is distinctive due to its rare combination of transparent shiny amber and opaque amber. It was named "Jubilee" to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the Kaliningrad region.
According to the statement from the office, the amber formed approximately 40 million years ago when resin flowed from an ancient pine tree into its trunk. After filling the tree cavity, the resin gradually hardened, preserving both its shape and internal structure. This process resulted in a unique natural mold of ancient wood visible within the amber.
Mikhail Zatsypin, the general director of the Amber Complex, described the amber piece weighing over one kilogram as unique. He noted that such discoveries are rare; for instance, specialists found 13 unique amber pieces in 2025, and this is the first piece discovered in the current season.
Zatsypin added, "Each sample of this type undergoes a thorough state examination, after which a decision is made regarding its fate. These unique exhibits are added to the collection of the Kaliningrad Amber Complex Museum, ensuring the preservation of national heritage for future generations." He also mentioned that some of these pieces are presented at public auctions due to their rarity.
It was recalled that in 2021, the largest amber piece weighing 2.374 kilograms was found in the Kaliningrad region and was named the "Record Holder."
The next public auction, where such pieces might be exhibited, is scheduled for the autumn of 2026.
