After the final whistle, Harry Kane, Bayern Munich's striker, collapsed and hid his face in his shirt, in a scene reflecting the immense disappointment that struck the Bavarian team after their 1-1 draw with Paris Saint-Germain, bidding farewell to the continental tournament from the semi-finals. Bayern's loss in the two-legged tie with a 6-5 aggregate ended their hopes of reaching the final to face their rival Arsenal.
Ousmane Dembélé's early goal in the first three minutes at the Allianz Arena put the Parisian team ahead, before the England captain scored the equalizer in stoppage time, but it was not enough to turn the tables. Bayern had hoped to compensate for their thrilling 5-4 defeat in the first leg last week, but their journey ended there.
Kane, the former Tottenham player, was seen covering his eyes while receiving a hug from veteran goalkeeper Manuel Neuer. Coach Vincent Kompany also patted the striker on the chest, while the saddened Bayern stars applauded the home team's fans.
The frustrated Kane did not make any statements to the media after the match, but Neuer spoke to journalists, acknowledging that the team was not decisive enough. Neuer said: "I think we lacked offensive decisiveness today, but in the end we had chances to win the match.. We didn't have many clear chances, but when those moments come to you." He added: "Look at Paris, they fought for every ball, and that is exactly what we needed today."
