Neymar scores and gifts a draw to Santos and apologizes to Robinho
Neymar Jr. scored the opening goal for Santos in their 1-1 draw against Deportivo Recoleta in the Sudamericana, but later apologized to teammate Robinho Jr. after a reported training altercation.

The match between Paraguay's Deportivo Recoleta and their guest Brazil's Santos ended in a positive 1-1 draw, within the fourth round of the group stage of the "Sudamericana" tournament. The match was held at the "Parapeti" Stadium in the early hours of Wednesday morning.
Star Neymar Jr. scored the lead goal for Santos at minute 41, amid great anticipation from the fans. However, the hosts returned to the match and equalized through Fernando Galeano at minute 86, snatching a valuable point in the final moments.
Fourth Group Standings
This draw kept Santos at the bottom of the fourth group with only 3 points. Santos trails behind both Recoleta and Deportivo Cuenca, each with 4 points. Argentina's San Lorenzo tops the group standings with 5 points. The contours of the struggle in this group are expected to be largely determined after the anticipated match between the Argentine and Ecuadorian teams.
World Cup Pressures and Locker Room Crises
Neymar entered the match burdened by a series of pressures. Sports circles were abuzz last week with reports of internal tensions at the club following an altercation with his teammate Robinho Jr. during training.
The Brazilian star seeks to regain his luster and deliver a decisive performance to convince coach Carlo Ancelotti of his right to join the Brazilian national team roster for the 2026 World Cup. This challenge requires double effort given the precarious situation of his team continentally.
Recent reports indicated that Robinho Jr., the son of the former player for Spain's Real Madrid, England's Manchester City, and Italy's Milan, accuses Neymar of insulting him and slapping him during the altercation that followed his dribbling in one of Santos' training sessions. However, Neymar, after scoring his goal in today's match, celebrated with the young player in an attempt to mend the rift between them.
Neymar's Apology
Neymar acknowledged after the match that the altercation did indeed occur. He said in media statements: "It was a mistake from me and a mistake from him, and I apologized to him in the locker room, and I thought the matter was resolved between us. The next day I apologized to him in front of the team and his family and we trained together, but I was surprised by a big uproar. And if they want my apology again in front of the media, I apologize as well."
Neymar added: "He is a boy I love very much because he is a very special person. Sometimes you fight with your brother, and I myself have fought with my friends in football before, and this is normal. I thought the matter was over after our talk in the locker room, then the next day I apologized in front of everyone, but afterwards a new uproar unfortunately emerged."
For his part, Robinho said in media statements: "I certainly felt upset; he has been my idol since I was a child and I have great love for him. I remember he gave me a gift when I was eight years old, I cried a lot from joy then and I still keep his shirt to this day. The incident took on dimensions larger than it deserved; even if there was a mistake, Neymar has already apologized and acknowledged it.. He showed courage and manliness to take responsibility, and everything is fine now. People are spreading many false lies, but the matter is completely settled and over."
