Apple is reevaluating its smart glasses as a health and fitness platform, though core wellness capabilities will not debut with the first-generation device due to technical constraints and weight limitations.

Apple is advancing plans to position its upcoming smart glasses as a dedicated health and fitness companion, shifting focus toward consumer health, spatial computing, and human behavior analytics. The initiative falls under the Vision Products team, which oversees development of future wearable vision and audio devices.
While Apple is already exploring health applications for the Vision Pro—such as a version of Apple Fitness+ designed to run natively on the spatial computer—the company has shelved similar functionality for that device’s initial release. According to 9to5Mac, an early prototype included body-motion tracking tailored specifically for fitness use, distinct from motion analysis on iPad or Apple TV. That effort was abandoned primarily because of the Vision Pro’s weight.
A dedicated in-headset Fitness+ experience had been envisioned to let users wear the device during workouts, follow guided exercise sessions, and receive real-time movement feedback via built-in body-tracking technology. However, the project never launched, halted by both technical hurdles and the physical burden of the hardware.
For its next-generation smart glasses—unlike the Vision Pro, these will lack displays—Apple is revisiting the health concept with structural adjustments. The absence of screens necessitates a fundamentally different approach to delivering fitness and wellness features.
The company has described the challenge as translating “ambiguous opportunities at the intersection of spatial computing, wearables, consumer health, and human behavior” into concrete product direction. Cameras embedded in the glasses may play a central role, enabling activity recognition to assess whether movements are performed correctly or incorrectly—and thereby support form correction and exercise optimization.
These health-oriented capabilities are not expected to appear in the first generation of Apple’s smart glasses. Their full realization may take several years, pending resolution of engineering constraints and refinement of the underlying health framework.
