Advanced notebook display shipments are projected to climb 11% in 2026 relative to 2025, with OLED units specifically expected to see a 50% increase during the same period. This growth trajectory for high-end panels significantly outpaces the broader market, which Counterpoint Research forecasts will contract by 3% year over year.

OLED dominance over MiniLED

The research firm anticipates that OLED technology will expand its lead against MiniLED alternatives within the advanced notebook segment. Market share for OLED displays is predicted to rise from 56% of shipments in 2025 to 75% in 2026. Conversely, MiniLED’s share is expected to fall from 44% to 25% over the same timeframe.

Impact of new MacBook Pro

A key driver behind this expansion is Apple’s integration of OLED technology into its next-generation MacBook Pro lineup. Current rumors suggest these devices, featuring touchscreen capabilities and a redesigned, lighter chassis, may be announced on October 27. Counterpoint notes that this adoption, combined with sustained demand for premium AI PCs, underpins the forecasted shipment growth.

Looking further ahead, the report projects another 24% increase in OLED notebook display shipments in 2027. Between 2024 and 2030, panel shipments are expected to grow at a compounded annual rate of 26%, while revenue from these panels is forecast to expand by 35% annually.

Tandem architecture advantages

Technological advancements also contribute to OLED’s rising prominence. The adoption of tandem OLED architectures improves brightness, power efficiency, and panel longevity. Apple currently employs this two-layer technology in the iPad Pro to achieve higher full-screen brightness. It is widely anticipated that similar two-stack tandem OLED configurations will appear in the upcoming 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models.
