Blackstone and Google Unite to Challenge AI Chip Monopoly
A strategic alliance between Blackstone and Google has launched a new cloud company in the U.S., backed by a $5 billion initial investment from Blackstone. The venture aims to provide advanced tensor processing units (TPUs) as flexible cloud computing services, targeting a capacity of 500 megawatts by 2027 and challenging Nvidia’s dominance in AI chips.

Blackstone and Google have formed a major strategic partnership to establish a new cloud computing company in the United States. This joint venture focuses on delivering cutting-edge operational efficiency to hyperscale data centers and offering advanced tensor processing units (TPUs) as scalable cloud services to users.
Blackstone is injecting $5 billion in direct equity to secure a majority stake in the new entity. The partnership plans to increase total investment to approximately $25 billion by leveraging additional financing and borrowing tools. Their goal is to activate an initial 500 megawatts of capacity by 2027.
Challenging the AI Chip Market Dominance
Google executive Benjamin Trenor Sloss will lead the management of the new company, which clearly aims to rival emerging cloud computing firms such as CoreWeave and Nebius. A key objective is to reduce the growing reliance on Nvidia’s chips, which currently dominate this critical global market, according to Yahoo Finance.
Blackstone brings its vast digital infrastructure investment experience, managing an asset portfolio exceeding $1.3 trillion. The firm integrates its expertise from acquiring major companies like QTS and AirTrunk with Google’s advanced chip technology, which is in record demand from leading tech firms including Anthropic and Meta.
AI Advances in Scientific Automation
Separately, researchers at the U.S. Department of Energy’s Argonne National Laboratory are developing AI-powered robotic assistants capable of learning laboratory procedures directly from human scientists. These robots are intended to automate complex scientific experiments, marking a significant advancement in AI applications within research environments.
