GTA VI Launches November 19 with Dual Protagonists, 80-Hour Story
Rockstar confirms GTA VI launches November 19, 2026 on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S only, featuring an 80-hour main story, dual protagonists Jason and Lucia, 600,000 unique NPC animations, and a reworked wanted system.

Rockstar has confirmed Grand Theft Auto VI will launch globally on November 19, 2026, exclusively for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S at launch. The Standard Edition is priced at $79.99; the Ultimate Edition costs $99.99. No PC release is planned for launch day.
Scope and scale of the open world
Vice City spans a megapolis, suburban zones, tropical wetlands resembling the Everglades — complete with manatees and alligators — and a chain of smaller islands. According to Rockstar, the map is roughly twice the size of Los Santos from GTA V. Construction sites across the city visibly advance as the narrative progresses.
Dual-protagonist mechanics and character systems
The game features two playable characters: Jason and Lucia. Players can calibrate their relationship along a spectrum ranging from strictly professional to fully romantic. Options include holding hands by pressing the trigger, scheduling dates, working out together at the gym, or choosing not to interact at all. Switching between them in open-world play is instantaneous. During car chases, one character drives while the other fires from the window or roof hatch. When separated, the off-screen protagonist sends text messages — requesting tasks like locking the house or buying groceries.
Both characters display physiological responses: visible sweating during exertion, real-time hair and beard growth, and body shape changes tied to diet and gym activity — a system echoing that of GTA: San Andreas. They also exchange non-verbal cues such as glances and gestures.
Dynamic social layer and NPC behavior
An in-game social media platform named “Leonida Viral”, modelled on TikTok and Instagram, allows bystanders to record player actions on their phones. Those clips circulate online and may alert law enforcement or rival gangs.
Rockstar developed over 600,000 unique NPC animations for GTA VI — more than ten times the approximately 55,000 used in GTA V. Civilians possess individual patience thresholds: robbing a convenience store may prompt random shoppers to physically intervene. Unprovoked street violence reduces resident trust, altering dialogue options in side missions and affecting shop prices. Shooting enemies in the limbs causes incapacitation without death — a tactical option when preventing phone calls is critical.
Driving, weapons, and law enforcement
Vehicles now feature functional fuel, engine temperature, and damage gauges on the dashboard. Running out of fuel leaves players stranded. Supercars deploy active spoilers and display glowing brake calipers under heavy braking. Stealing high-end vehicles requires either cloning the smart key with a scanner or using a lockpick. Weapon loadouts are split: one pistol and one long-arm remain on the player’s person; all additional firearms are stored in the vehicle trunk.
The wanted system returns with six stars. Police officers recognize facial features, tattoos, hairstyles, clothing, and vehicle identification. Changing jackets or repainting cars in alleys can help evade pursuit. A 911 call only triggers a police response if a bystander successfully places it.
Pre-orders are available now through the PlayStation UK and Xbox storefronts. All players begin gameplay simultaneously on November 19 — no early access tiers are offered. DLCompare has published a full comparison of editions and regional pricing details.
