Rockstar Games has not announced a release date for GTA VI’s multiplayer component — but Twitch CEO Dan Clancy stated publicly it will arrive in 2027. He delivered the comment during an appearance at the Tokyo Game Show on September 17, citing direct collaboration with Rockstar on engagement strategy for streamers.

Clancy’s timeline and context

Speaking to Bloomberg at the event, Clancy said: “We've spent a lot of time with Rockstar on their plans, and we've helped them think through how to engage our streamers. You'll see a big spike around GTA VI, and then next year, when multiplayer comes out, it'll be even bigger.” His remarks constitute the first public projection of a timeline for the mode — one Rockstar has never formally acknowledged or detailed.

Clancy also drew a comparison between GTA VI’s planned marketing rollout and the cultural scale of the Barbie movie campaign. That analogy signals Take-Two’s expectation that the title will sustain mainstream attention across multiple calendar years, extending well into 2027.

No official confirmation from Rockstar

Rockstar continues to promote GTA VI solely as a single-player experience. The studio has released no details regarding a multiplayer product name, business model, or official launch window. Clancy’s statement carries credibility due to his cited “substantial time” with Rockstar — yet it remains an external observation, not an official commitment.

GTA Online remains active

At Take-Two’s shareholder meeting held the same day, CEO Strauss Zelnick confirmed GTA Online will continue to receive support after GTA VI’s multiplayer launches. That decision reflects the service’s ongoing financial contribution: recurrent consumer spending rose 27% in Q3 2026, driven largely by GTA Online.

Zelnick did not clarify whether GTA VI Online will replace the existing GTA Online infrastructure or operate alongside it. Take-Two provided no coexistence roadmap or technical integration details.

PC release timing still unannounced

Zelnick noted that PC now accounts for 45–50% of revenue on Take-Two’s major releases. While GTA VI has no confirmed PC launch date, that revenue share suggests a potentially accelerated port schedule. Based on the GTA V pattern — which reached PC roughly 19 months after its console debut — a realistic PC window falls between late 2027 and 2028. Industry insiders have speculated Rockstar may shorten that gap, but no official indication has been given.

The current plan remains unchanged: a console launch on November 19, 2026; multiplayer in 2027; and a PC release thereafter.
