Roscosmos, the Russian space agency, has completed successful tests of a newly developed modem intended to provide satellite internet and Internet of Things (IoT) services.

According to an official statement from Roscosmos, its subsidiary Gonets Satellite System, in cooperation with Stack Com, conducted trials on the compact AT-Gonets (URM-D2) modem designed for satellite-based IoT connectivity. The device demonstrated stable operation even under difficult conditions where many other systems showed unreliable performance. The modem was deliberately disconnected from its power source, and upon rebooting, it was able to recover all data with 100% accuracy.

The agency noted that the testing involved data transmissions ranging from 10 bytes to 20 kilobytes, with data transfer occurring smoothly each time.

Roscosmos highlighted that the new modem is six times smaller than its predecessor, facilitating easy integration into various types of equipment. The device also enables network access in areas lacking cellular coverage. The agency plans to initiate serial production of this modem and expand its range of devices dedicated to satellite internet and IoT services.

Roscosmos collaborates with several Russian companies on satellite projects aimed at delivering communication and IoT services to Earth. Some of these satellites have already been launched into orbit. Last year, the Russian company Geoscan, working alongside Gonets under Roscosmos, conducted tests of high-speed data transfer between small satellites in space.

The Gonets system represents a pioneering model for digital transformation in the field of satellite communications.

Internet of Things, or IoT, refers to the new generation of internet technology that enables interconnected devices to communicate with each other. These devices include tools, sensors, detectors, artificial intelligence instruments, and others. A key feature of IoT technology is that it allows users to control devices remotely without needing to be physically present at a specific location to operate a particular device.
