Mass manufacturing of Samsung’s upcoming Exynos 2700 mobile processor has reportedly commenced, establishing the hardware foundation for the next-generation Galaxy S27 series. However, the specific chipset configuration for the flagship Galaxy S27 Ultra remains undecided, according to reports from The Elec.

Production targets and regional strategies

The Korean technology outlet indicates that Samsung’s production goals for the Exynos 2700 exceed those of the previous Exynos 2600 by more than 10%. This surge in volume is linked to anticipated plans for an additional Galaxy S27 Pro model within the lineup.

Current expectations suggest a split sourcing strategy based on geography. Devices destined for Europe and South Korea are projected to feature the Exynos 2700, while units sold in the United States and China will likely utilize Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6.

Model-specific chip allocation

The reported regional breakdown applies consistently across three standard models: the Galaxy S27, Galaxy S27+, and the rumored Galaxy S27 Pro. Each of these devices is expected to carry the Exynos 2700 in European and South Korean markets, with the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 reserved for US and Chinese versions.

In contrast, the processor strategy for the Galaxy S27 Ultra has not been finalized. Options under consideration include reverting to region-specific chips or maintaining a Snapdragon-only approach for this top-tier device.

Internal divisions on Ultra configuration

Samsung System LSI, the division responsible for designing Exynos processors, reportedly advocates for integrating the 2700 into the Ultra model. Meanwhile, Samsung MX, which manages smartphone operations, continues to evaluate factors such as performance metrics, thermal behavior, cost structures, and manufacturing capacity.

Qualcomm’s chip pricing also influences this assessment. The initiation of Exynos 2700 production does not guarantee its inclusion in the Ultra, leaving the final decision open pending further internal review.

Performance benchmarks and node specifications

Preliminary internal Geekbench data suggests the Exynos 2700 outperforms the Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 by approximately 9.5% in multi-core tasks. Conversely, Qualcomm’s chip maintains an advantage in single-core performance. These early figures do not yet account for sustained performance, power consumption, or gaming capabilities.

The Exynos 2700 is expected to be manufactured using Samsung’s 2 nm SF2P process, incorporating Gate-All-Around transistors. Compared to the SF2 node used for the Exynos 2600, this newer manufacturing process allegedly delivers up to 12% higher performance, 25% lower power consumption, and an 8% reduction in area.

Architectural changes may also see the chip transition from Arm C1 CPU cores to newer Arm C2 cores. A launch window for the Galaxy S27 series in February or March 2027 aligns with the reported production schedule.

The critical remaining variable is whether Samsung can convert the claimed gains from the new process node into an Exynos configuration that Samsung MX deems suitable for its highest-profile Galaxy S27 model.
