Qualcomm, Samsung Link AI Across Watches and Glasses

Smartwatches, extended reality headsets, and audio gear are now central to the joint artificial intelligence strategy between Qualcomm and Samsung. This expansion moves beyond their established collaboration on Galaxy smartphones. Ziad Asghar, who leads Qualcomm’s XR, wearables, and Personal AI divisions, spoke at the Snapdragon Summit 2026 in Maui. He highlighted Samsung as a critical ally in the broader Personal AI framework, as reported by ChosunBiz.

The Ecosystem Strategy Explained

The core concept places the smartphone at the hub of the user's digital life. Connected wearables serve to feed an AI agent with continuous contextual data. This approach eliminates the need for users to describe each situation from scratch. Instead, the phone aggregates information collected across various devices to maintain situational awareness.

Each device type contributes specific data streams to this network. A smartwatch provides context related to physical activity. Smart glasses identify objects within the user’s field of view. Headphones and other audio wearables capture voice commands alongside relevant environmental sounds.

Samsung Hardware Integration

Samsung has already deployed several components of this interconnected system. The company unveiled Galaxy XR at MWC 2026. It also showcased smart glasses built on Android XR, Gemini, and Qualcomm’s Snapdragon AR1 Gen 1 platform. Qualcomm previously confirmed that its Snapdragon processors would appear across Galaxy phones, Galaxy Watch models, and Samsung smart glasses. This development widens a relationship historically tied to Galaxy S handsets and Snapdragon “for Galaxy” editions.

For Qualcomm, this initiative extends the utility of Snapdragon technology beyond the maturing smartphone market. The company introduced Snapdragon Sound Elite Gen 2 as part of this push. This platform enables on-device AI processing and supports multimodal audio devices.

Demonstrations and Future Timelines

During the summit, Qualcomm demonstrated glasses capable of recognizing objects and responding via voice. These functions relied on an AI model running locally, operating without a cloud connection. Samsung is concurrently developing a generation of Galaxy Glasses designed to display information directly in the lens.

No new Samsung Galaxy product was announced during the partnership update. Consequently, the timing and scope of any unified experience linking phones, watches, XR, and glasses remain unconfirmed.
