Saros PS5 Sales Hit 300,000 in Two Weeks, Trails Returnal’s Launch Pace
Housemarque's Saros sold over 300,000 copies on PS5 in two weeks, earning $22 million, but its sales pace is slower than Returnal's 2021 launch.

Over 300,000 copies of the PlayStation 5 exclusive Saros were sold within its first two weeks on the market, generating more than $22 million in revenue, according to estimates from analytics firm Alinea Analytics. Despite these figures, the title’s sales velocity has lagged behind that of developer Housemarque’s earlier game, Returnal, which launched in 2021 when the PS5’s user base was considerably smaller.
Developed by Housemarque, Saros officially launched on April 30, 2026. It offers a third-person shooter experience built on the studio’s signature “bullet hell” style combined with Roguelike elements — the same formula that defined Returnal. Critically, the game has outperformed its predecessor, earning a high average score of 87 on both Metacritic and OpenCritic.
Roughly one-third of all sales occurred during an early-access period granted to purchasers of the digital deluxe edition, which allowed gameplay two days before the official release. The development budget for Saros is estimated at around $76 million, meaning the project still requires significant time to break even financially, particularly given its challenging nature that appeals to a niche audience of players.
The story of Saros unfolds on a fictional planet called “Carcosa,” where actor Rahul Kohli portrays “Arjun Devraj,” a soldier investigating the planet’s constantly shifting mysteries amid a variety of obscure threats.
Recent reports indicate that Sony has begun reassessing its strategy for porting first-party exclusives to PC. This shift could mean Saros remains exclusive to the PS5 for a longer period compared to some earlier releases.
