Switch 2 Sonic Frontiers release set for June 23
Sonic Frontiers Definitive Edition is expected on Switch 2 on June 23, 2026, at $49.99, with physical and digital versions planned.

Sonic Frontiers Definitive Edition is expected to reach Nintendo Switch 2 on June 23, 2026, with a $49.99 price tag and both physical and digital editions planned.
The release date lines up with Sonic the Hedgehog's birthday and the franchise's 35th anniversary. The same version is also said to be $10 cheaper than the original Switch launch price of $59.99.
Leak details and pricing
The information comes from billbil-kun, a leaker at the Dealabs deal-tracking community, and the source has a strong track record. The same source previously identified the Assassin's Creed Shadows Switch 2 release date before any official announcement.
SEGA has not confirmed the game publicly. Even so, the leak is backed by a South Korean ratings board filing and a French retailer listing at €49.90, and an official reveal could come at a mid-June Nintendo Direct that has not been formally announced.
Performance on Switch 2
Sonic Frontiers launched on Switch in 2022 and sold 3.5 million copies worldwide, which made it the best-selling 3D Sonic game ever, according to GameGPU. On the original hardware, it ran at 30fps.
The Definitive Edition is expected to run at 60fps natively on Switch 2, along with improved resolution, although SEGA has not confirmed the exact enhancements. The current Switch version already works on Switch 2 through backwards compatibility, but without hardware-specific optimizations.
What SEGA has not confirmed
The $10 price cut comes after SEGA lowered the PC base price of Frontiers to $39.99. The article says that suggests a broader push to make the game more accessible as the franchise builds momentum, helped in part by the Sonic film series still drawing audiences.
If someone already played Frontiers on Switch or PC, the value of buying it again will depend on how much the performance and visual upgrades matter, since SEGA has not spelled them out. For players who skipped it, $49.99 on Switch 2 is described as a reasonable entry point for what remains the best-reviewed open-world Sonic game to date.
Watch for a ResetEra follow-up tied to the billbil-kun leak once SEGA makes the game official. The post also included two embedded blocks, marked as and .
