The United States has upgraded the United Arab Emirates' classification under the U.S. Export Administration Regulations (EAR) to category A:5, according to UAE Minister of State Saeed Al Hajri.

Al Hajri stated that the UAE is the first Arab country to receive this classification, joining the ranks of the United States' closest and most trusted partners in advanced technology sectors. He noted that the decision reflects the strength of the UAE's compliance system and export controls.

Under this new classification, restrictions on exporting advanced technologies to the UAE will be eased. This includes artificial intelligence chips, semiconductors, advanced computing, quantum technologies, as well as sectors related to space, peaceful nuclear energy, and dual-use technologies.

The U.S. Department of Commerce confirmed that the decision allows the UAE to access advanced computing equipment, including AI chips and servers, without requiring export licenses. It also covers the relaxation of restrictions related to support for unmanned aerial vehicle programs.

The department highlighted that this move aligns with the ongoing military partnership between the two countries and the UAE's commitment to preventing the misuse or diversion of sensitive technologies.

The decision is expected to broaden opportunities for cooperation in research and development, investment, global supply chains, and the transfer of advanced technologies.
