X has unveiled a new suite of video creation and editing tools within its application, aiming to encourage users to share original content and to curb the widespread reposting of stolen clips on the platform.

Nikita Beer, head of product at X, stated that many videos posted by major accounts have been "stolen from other users, sometimes even five years after their initial release," highlighting that videos account for nearly half of the platform's total views.

The newly introduced tools are designed to simplify the production of original content directly inside the app, rather than recycling videos previously published on other platforms. These features, now available to X app users on iPhone devices, include an integrated video editor and a new recorder, alongside several key functionalities such as:

  • Automatic subtitle addition in multiple languages.
  • A Green Screen tool that allows background changes using posts from X or images saved on the phone.
  • Easy video trimming and editing capabilities.
  • Generation of automatic captions for recorded clips.

Some of these features resemble tools already present in applications like Instagram and TikTok, particularly the green screen and in-app video editing options. This initiative is part of X's efforts to reduce copied content. In May, Beer revealed that the company identified several large accounts that were automatically reposting other users' videos to benefit from the ad revenue sharing program, confirming that the platform would credit the original creators for the views on these clips.

Additionally, in April, X announced a reduction in payments to accounts relying on reposting stolen content or using misleading titles to attract clicks. Beer emphasized that accounts publishing original content instead of recycled videos "will experience faster growth and wider reach" compared to those dependent on reposted material.
