Xiaomi 17 Max launches with 8,000mAh battery at $630 in China

The Xiaomi 17 Max has arrived in China featuring an 8,000mAh battery, the largest ever included in a Xiaomi phone, integrated into a 6.9-inch flagship device priced at approximately $630. While currently exclusive to the Chinese market, a global release is anticipated in May 2026.

Specifications and design features of the Xiaomi 17 Max

This model should not be confused with the Xiaomi 17 Pro Max, which was unveiled separately and includes a secondary 2.9-inch display embedded in the camera module; the 17 Max lacks this feature. Essentially, the 17 Max is a larger and more powerful iteration of the standard Xiaomi 17.

The device sports a 1.5K OLED screen without PenTile subpixel arrangement, supporting a 120Hz refresh rate and reaching a peak brightness of 3,500 nits. Protection is provided by Xiaomi’s Dragon Crystal Glass 3.0, and the phone carries an IP68 rating for dust and water resistance.

Under the hood, it runs on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset, paired with up to 16GB of RAM and 512GB of storage. The 8,000mAh battery supports 100W wired charging and 50W wireless charging, surpassing many Western flagship models in charging speed.

Connectivity options include 5G, Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 5.4, NFC, and USB-C 3.2 Gen 1. The phone operates on HyperOS 3, which is based on Android 16.

Camera system and imaging capabilities

The rear camera setup consists of three lenses: a 200MP main sensor measuring 1/1.4 inches capable of recording 8K video and 4K Dolby Vision HDR, a 50MP ultrawide lens using the OmniVision OV50M sensor, and a 50MP telephoto lens with a 1/2-inch Sony IMX882 sensor offering 3× optical zoom. Xiaomi states that Leica tuning has been applied to all three cameras.

Pricing and potential global availability

The base model with 12GB RAM and 256GB storage is priced at about $630, converted from its Chinese yuan cost. This price point is considerably lower than the iPhone 17 Pro Max, which retails for £1,199 in the UK and a higher equivalent in the US. So far, only the Xiaomi 17 and 17 Ultra have been released outside China; the 17 Max and Pro Max remain China-only.

According to Tech Advisor citing tipster Yogesh Brar, a global launch of the 17 Max is expected in May 2026 alongside the 17T series, although Xiaomi has not officially confirmed this. It is important to note that previous Xiaomi models have had their battery capacities reduced to comply with EU and UK regulations, so the 8,000mAh battery may be smaller in international versions.
