Italian coach Carlo Ancelotti has started implementing new methods during Brazil's training camp as the team prepares for the 2026 World Cup, demonstrating his focus on detailed strategies that could influence key matches.

Brazil is set to face Morocco in the opening match of Group C early Sunday morning, with Haiti and Scotland also in the group alongside them.

According to the Spanish newspaper Marca, attention was drawn during training sessions to black wristbands worn by several players, including Marquinhos and Gabriel Magalhães. These wristbands are not ordinary sports accessories.

The wristbands feature a transparent window containing small cards with tactical instructions specifically for set pieces. These cards include drawn movements, individual roles, and possible alternatives for each situation, enabling players to quickly review instructions on the field without waiting for coaching staff directions.

Concept Inspired by American Football

This idea is based on a system long used in American football, where NFL playmakers rely on similar cards to review plans and instructions during games.

Ancelotti saw the potential to adapt this approach to soccer, particularly focusing on set pieces, which he considers one of the most influential elements affecting match outcomes.

Set Pieces as a Special Priority

Before Brazil’s opening World Cup game against Morocco, the Italian coach emphasized the importance of offensive efficiency over ball possession.

He stated, "Possession is important, but the more crucial statistic is the number of goals you score and the number you concede."

Ancelotti also showed significant interest in improving the team’s performance on set pieces, highlighting their potential to decide many matches in major tournaments.

He added, "About 30% of goals come from set pieces, so we must be highly focused. We have worked on this in recent days because we have players who excel in aerial duels and others capable of delivering precise crosses."

Leveraging Brazilian Strengths

Ancelotti relies on a group of players who provide Brazil with a clear advantage in this area, whether through physically strong defenders with aerial superiority or players skilled at delivering accurate crosses.

The Italian coach hopes to transform these individual capabilities into an effective collective weapon to help Brazil compete strongly in the World Cup and achieve the dream of winning its sixth star.
