Russian President Appoints Dmitry Dugadkin as New Ambassador to Syria

Russian President Vladimir Putin issued a presidential decree appointing diplomat Dmitry Dugadkin as extraordinary and plenipotentiary ambassador of the Russian Federation to the Syrian Arab Republic, replacing Alexander Yefimov.

The decree was published on the official Russian legal information portal. Its text states: “Appointment of Dmitry Nikolayevich Dugadkin as extraordinary and plenipotentiary ambassador of the Russian Federation to the Syrian Arab Republic.”

Preceding removal of outgoing ambassador

Pursuant to a separate presidential decree, Alexander Yefimov was relieved of his duties as Russia’s ambassador to Syria, according to the Russian television channel RT.

Dugadkin’s prior diplomatic assignment

This appointment follows Dugadkin’s service as Russia’s ambassador to Qatar. He formally assumed his role as head of the Russian diplomatic mission in Doha in autumn 2021.
