Jordan Henderson Taken to Hospital with Serious Wrist Injury After World Cup Win
Jordan Henderson was hospitalized following a wrist injury sustained during England's 3-2 World Cup victory over Mexico, with manager Thomas Tuchel describing the injury as serious.
Following England's dramatic 3-2 victory over Mexico in the last 16 of the World Cup, midfielder Jordan Henderson was stretchered off the field and transported to a hospital due to a significant wrist injury.
The 36-year-old Brentford player fell over the advertising hoardings amid the celebrations at Mexico City Stadium. He required oxygen assistance as he was carried off the pitch, prompting concern from England’s manager Thomas Tuchel, who described the injury as "really bad."
Tuchel told the BBC, "Not good, not good, next thing is a right defender now with the red card, Jordan just fell over and injured his wrist, it looks really bad." He added during his press conference, "He injured his wrist, he's gone to hospital it's quite a serious injury. It doesn't fit with the night. I don't know if there will be a procedure."
Captain Harry Kane initially provided an update, saying, "Jordan [Henderson] just fell over there, I think he's okay, just something to do with his arm," according to the Mirror.
Jude Bellingham praised the team's resilience after the match, in which England advanced to the quarter-finals to face Norway. Bellingham scored two quick goals to give England a 2-0 lead, but Mexico responded with a goal from Julian Quinonez before halftime.
The match intensified when England's right-back Jarell Quansah was sent off early in the second half for a severe tackle. Despite being down to ten men, England responded immediately with a penalty goal by Kane. Mexico’s Raul Jimenez also converted a penalty, increasing the pressure on England, but Tuchel’s squad maintained their lead.
Bellingham reflected on the match, stating, "Hard to gather it all together really. With 10 men defending how we defended our box, being clinical how we were in their box. Big pressure moments in years gone by watching as a fan, as a kid, England probably would have crumbled but we stuck together until the last second."
He continued, "The players who came on, the players that started, running themselves into the ground and giving everything. That is what this team is about. The atmosphere was by far the best I have played against in international football. This country as a footballing country is magnificent."
Bellingham also commented on the reception the team received, "The reception we had coming off the plane, although it was hostile, it was beautiful to see how passionate one country can be about their team. The refereeing decisions, it is what it is. It's the World Cup and they are human too. As easy as it is to say now, they are human, we made a lot more than they did, but no worries we got through."
