Erling Haaland has scored seven goals in just four matches during his first major tournament, including a brace that eliminated Brazil with a 2-1 victory, leading Norway to the World Cup quarterfinals for the first time.

Harry Kane, the Bayern Munich striker, trails Haaland by only one goal in the tournament's top scorer standings, bringing his overall World Cup goal tally to 14.

Speaking at a press conference on the eve of their match, Kane said, "I think we are two completely different players. I know we are both strikers, but we play in almost different positions."

He added, "Erling is an incredible player, his scoring record is amazing, and physically he is like a machine, a beast. His finishing is top-level and his goal record speaks for itself."

Kane continued, "I see myself as a different type of player, even though I score similar goals. I like to touch the ball a bit more and be more involved in the play, but I can also play as a pure striker."

He further stated, "I don't think it's appropriate to compare ourselves. I have a lot of respect for him as a player and a professional. Of course, I hope to have a quiet day tomorrow, but his overall performance is outstanding. He is an incredible player."

Despite their impressive scoring, both Kane and Haaland remain behind Argentine Lionel Messi and Frenchman Kylian Mbappé, who have each scored eight goals in the race for the Golden Boot.

Kane previously won the World Cup Golden Boot in 2018, although England failed to secure the title after being eliminated in the semifinals by Croatia.

The primary goal for Kane remains ending England's 60-year wait for a major title, but he also hopes his goals will help the "Three Lions" claim the championship.

The Bayern Munich forward commented, "This World Cup has been amazing in terms of the brilliance of all the top strikers and goal scorers, their goals, and their impact on matches. That is not always the case in major tournaments."

He added, "It's a fantastic competition. It pushes me to be at my best as much as possible."

Kane continued, "My main objective is to win the World Cup more than winning the Golden Boot again, but I also recognize that I am a scorer, the number nine striker, so if I score goals, it will definitely help the team."

Kane has been the spearhead for a generation of English players who have come closer than ever to ending the long wait since their 1966 World Cup triumph.

Under coach Gareth Southgate, England lost the finals of the last two European Championships and exited in the quarterfinals and semifinals in the last two World Cups.

Kane issued a final call for a strong effort to cross the line toward the title, which could require up to three matches in eight days to make history.

He said, "In the end, until we win that trophy, the talk will always be about England and the team, but we are in a good place. We are where we wanted to be six weeks ago when we gathered in the training camp."

He concluded, "We have taken many good steps in the right direction. We have overcome many tough moments and matches. Now we are in the final eight days of the final push. We will need everyone at their highest level to achieve our dreams."
