Veteran German goalkeeper Manuel Neuer has established a new record in World Cup history by becoming the goalkeeper with the highest number of appearances, reaching 21 matches while representing Germany. This achievement surpasses the previous record of 20 matches held by French goalkeeper Hugo Lloris.

Neuer matched Lloris's record during Germany's opening match against Curaçao and then surpassed it in the subsequent game against Ivory Coast. This milestone came after Neuer returned from international retirement to participate in his fifth World Cup tournament.

At 40 years old, Neuer is considered one of Germany's football legends. He made his World Cup debut in 2010 and has remained the team's first-choice goalkeeper since then. He also played a key role in Germany's 2014 World Cup victory.

With this record, Neuer now ranks third among German players with the most World Cup appearances, tied with Uwe Seeler at 21 matches. He trails only Lothar Matthäus, who holds the record with 25 matches, and Miroslav Klose with 24 matches.

In the match against Ivory Coast, Germany's lineup featured Manuel Neuer as goalkeeper, with Joshua Kimmich, Jonathan Tah, Nico Schlotterbeck, and Nathaniel Brown in defense. The midfield included Alexander Pavlovic, Felix Nmecha, and Jamal Musiala, while the attack consisted of Florian Wirtz, Leroy Sané, and Kai Havertz.
