A 6.2-magnitude earthquake struck Java Island in Indonesia on Saturday, the GFZ German Research Centre for Geosciences confirmed.

The tremor occurred at a depth of 376 kilometers — approximately 234 miles — classifying it as a deep-focus event. No immediate reports of damage or casualties have been issued.

Context of recent seismic activity

This event follows another 6.2-magnitude quake that hit the Banda Sea near Indonesia’s Maluku Islands on Friday, just one day earlier.

Indonesia’s Agency for Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics reported that Friday’s earthquake occurred at a depth of 143 kilometers — about 89 miles — and did not generate a tsunami. Authorities also confirmed no immediate reports of damage from that event.
