A 6.9-magnitude earthquake struck western Indonesia’s Sumatra island hours after a 7.7-magnitude quake hit the country’s east, killing 38 people; no tsunami warning was issued.
A fresh earthquake measuring 6.9 on the Richter scale struck Sumatra island in western Indonesia, according to the U.S. Geological Survey. The tremor occurred less than a day after a 7.7-magnitude quake hit the Southeast Asian nation.
The epicenter of the 6.9-magnitude event was located in Pematangsiantar, approximately 126 kilometers southeast of Medan, the capital city of Sumatra island. No tsunami warning has been issued.
The earlier 7.7-magnitude earthquake struck eastern Indonesia on Saturday morning and resulted in 38 fatalities.
