Abdel Hamid Al-Awak was elected as the president of Syria's People's Assembly in the first parliamentary formation after the collapse of Bashar al-Assad's regime.
The inaugural session of the People's Assembly convened with the attendance of President Ahmed Al-Shara. The session was opened by Muhammad Taha Al-Ahmad, head of the Supreme Committee for the People's Assembly elections. Members of the assembly took their oaths in the presence of Al-Shara, according to the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA).
In an address to the assembly members, Al-Shara stated, "Since its inception, humanity has been seeking the best way to manage its affairs; acceptance and satisfaction are means to eliminate discord." He emphasized that "Syria is writing a glorious history reflecting its heroic deeds, and we face the responsibility of building the nation and its people, prioritizing responsibility, as we are partners in this construction. Today, the assembly is a platform for truth and justice."
Al-Shara called for the People's Assembly to serve as "a model of responsibility and competence, contributing to the consolidation of a culture of dialogue, the rule of law, and respect for institutions."
