Putin Reaffirms Support for Syrian Sovereignty in Call with al-Sharaa
Russian President Vladimir Putin reaffirmed Moscow’s support for Syria’s unity, territorial integrity, and sovereignty during a phone call with Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa, according to a Kremlin statement.

Russian President Vladimir Putin reiterated Russia’s principled backing for Syria’s unity, territorial integrity, and sovereignty in a telephone conversation with Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa, the Kremlin confirmed in an official statement published on its website following the call.
The two leaders reviewed the current state of Russian-Syrian relations and discussed prospects for their further development. They affirmed their shared commitment to deepening political dialogue and expanding cooperation across trade, economic, and humanitarian domains, among others.
The Kremlin statement specified that Putin restated his consistent position in support of Syria’s unity, territorial integrity, and sovereignty, as well as the creation of conditions conducive to the long-term normalization of relations and the reconstruction process.
Both sides underscored the significance of the memorandum of understanding signed on 9 August concerning the reorganization of the Hmeimim air base and the material-technical support center in Tartus. They agreed to maintain communication at all levels going forward.
