Israel raised its alert level following the escalation in the Strait of Hormuz, and Iranian attacks in the region, according to the Hebrew newspaper "Yedioth Ahronoth", on Monday evening.

But a security source told channel "N12", that the alert level in Israel remains high, as it has been since the ceasefire, and the expanded government is scheduled to meet next Wednesday.

The source said: "We are following developments in the Gulf, and are ready for all defensive and offensive scenarios, however, there is currently no change in the directives of the Home Front Command, and we will continue to update information as needed."

For his part, an Israeli military official said on Monday that the army remains on high alert and is monitoring the situation after US forces destroyed six Iranian boats and shot down missiles.

The official said in a statement sent to AFP, that the army "is closely monitoring the situation and remains on high alert... our air defense systems and offensive capabilities remain in a state of high readiness."

In turn, the Israeli channel "12" said that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu held several security consultations during Monday, while the Israeli Broadcasting Authority spoke of "Israeli security meetings to assess the situation in the region."

Earlier today, Admiral Brad Cooper, commander of the US Central Command, said the US military destroyed 6 small Iranian boats and intercepted cruise missiles and drones launched by Tehran, as part of a US operation aimed at ensuring freedom of navigation through the Strait of Hormuz.

Cooper added that he "strongly advises" Iranian forces to stay away from US military sites during the operation.

He confirmed that the US blockade preventing ships from entering or leaving Iranian ports is still in effect, and that its results exceeded expectations.
