Bوتين backs Volodin for ninth Duma term

Russian President Vladimir Putin voiced his complete support for Vyacheslav Volodin to continue leading the State Duma in its new session. This endorsement came during a Monday meeting with representatives from political parties that secured parliamentary seats in the recently concluded elections.

Putin's explicit endorsement

During the gathering, Putin stated unequivocally that he backed the nomination of Vyacheslav Viktorovich Volodin for the position of Duma chairman in the upcoming term. His remarks emphasized full approval of retaining Volodin in this leadership role.

The meeting included prominent figures from various political factions. Gennady Zyuganov, leader of the Communist Party, attended alongside Leonid Slutsky, head of the Liberal Democratic Party. Alexander Babakov, First Deputy Chairman of "A Just Russia," and Alexey Nechaev, leader of "New People," were also present. Dmitry Medvedev, representing United Russia, joined the discussion with the president.

Election results and composition

Voting for the ninth convocation of the State Duma took place between September 18 and 20. The resulting parliament comprises representatives from five major political parties, one member from the "Rodina" party, and four independent candidates.

United Russia emerged as the dominant force, securing 349 seats. The Communist Party obtained 37 seats, a decrease from their previous holding of 57. The Liberal Democratic Party won 23 seats, while "New People" captured 19 and "A Just Russia" secured 17. Voter turnout across the election period reached 59.8%.

Call for collaborative governance

Putin urged parliamentary parties to engage in joint and collective work. He expressed confidence that United Russia would ensure effective and fair representation for all political forces within the Duma’s leadership structure and its committees.

According to the official website of the State Duma, the first session of the newly elected chamber is scheduled for September 30. A working group led by Victor Pinsky, a deputy from United Russia, is responsible for preparing the inaugural meeting. The head of state is expected to attend this opening session.
