At a Democratic fundraiser in Maryland on Saturday night, Joe Biden sharply criticized Donald Trump, focusing on the troubled renovation of the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool and other projects linked to the former president.

Biden Targets Trump’s Renovation Projects and Legacy

During his remarks, Biden addressed several issues, including the problematic restoration of the Reflecting Pool, the removal of Trump’s name from the Kennedy Center following a court order, a planned $600 million ballroom to replace the White House East Wing, and a proposed triumphal arch bearing Trump’s name. “It’s not just his vanity projects,” Biden stated, according to The Hill. He mocked Trump’s decision to hire his own pool maintenance worker for the Reflecting Pool, adding, “Whoa, what a loser.”

The renovation of the Reflecting Pool has faced multiple challenges since it began, including an algae bloom after repainting and incidents of alleged vandalism, undermining the administration’s portrayal of the project.

Biden’s critique extended beyond the projects themselves to what he described as corruption at the core of Trump’s presidency. “It’s the brazen, blatant corruption — corruption on a scale never seen before in American history in any administration,” he said.

He further accused Trump of profiting personally from his time in office. “Trump has made billions of dollars since his return to the White House. Making money off the presidency is one of the reasons he wants to be president,” Biden added.

The Maryland event marked a significant moment, as Biden has generally remained out of the public spotlight since his prostate cancer diagnosis, which was announced after he left office. This fundraiser represented one of his most direct and sustained critiques of Trump since the presidential transition.

Earlier in February, after Trump delivered the longest State of the Union address on record, Biden had joked at a South Carolina event about wondering if Trump was “still talking.”
