A military official and another local official in Chad announced Tuesday that an attack by suspected Boko Haram militants on the "Barka Tolorum" military base killed at least 24 people.
The military source stated that the attack, which occurred on Monday, "resulted in 25 dead and 46 wounded from the Chadian army ranks," while a local administration official reported the toll as "24 dead and a number of wounded."
Last April, at least 42 people were killed in clashes between ethnic groups in eastern Chad, according to what the AFP news agency reported from a government official. The government official explained that the clashes, which occurred on Saturday in the Guerida area of the Wadi Fira region, erupted due to a dispute over a water well.
