Death Toll from Venezuela Earthquakes Rises to 5,346 with 20,000 in Temporary Camps

The death toll from the two earthquakes that struck northern Venezuela on June 24 has increased to 5,346, according to the latest official figures announced by Jorge Rodríguez, president of the Venezuelan National Assembly.

The number of injured remains at 16,740, while rescue and debris removal teams continue their work in the affected areas, particularly in the coastal state of La Guaira. This region suffered the most damage from the earthquakes, which measured 7.2 and 7.5 on the Richter scale and were followed by more than a thousand aftershocks.

In La Guaira, approximately 20,000 people remain in temporary shelters set up in stadiums, public squares, and on sidewalks. Government and humanitarian efforts are ongoing to provide aid and resettle those affected. International organizations estimate that hundreds of thousands still require urgent humanitarian assistance.
