A New York appeals court denied Donald Trump's request to delay payment of $5.8 million to E. Jean Carroll following a sexual abuse and defamation verdict.

Donald Trump has been ordered to pay nearly $5.8 million to E. Jean Carroll after a New York federal appeals court rejected his effort to postpone the payment. This ruling advances the enforcement of a civil judgment against Trump related to sexual abuse and defamation claims.
The 2nd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in New York declined President Trump’s emergency motion to stay the release of funds to Carroll, allowing her to access the money Trump had deposited with the court. This decision follows a jury verdict from May 2023 that held Trump civilly liable for sexual abuse and defamation.
Earlier on the same day, Manhattan federal Judge Lewis Kaplan authorized Carroll’s request to withdraw the funds Trump had placed three years ago as security for the judgment. Despite Trump's legal team arguing that Supreme Court proceedings were still pending, the Supreme Court had already denied his appeal petition on June 29 without dissent.
Judge Kaplan dismissed the claims that releasing the funds would cause irreparable harm to Trump. He emphasized that Trump had delayed the case for a significant period and that the legal process had effectively concluded. Kaplan highlighted the unanimous jury verdict finding Trump liable for sexually abusing and defaming Carroll and declared it was time for the judgment to be satisfied.
Roberta Kaplan, Carroll’s attorney, described the case as reaching its final stage in court filings, contending that further delay would be unjust and against public interest. Meanwhile, a spokesperson for Trump’s legal team characterized the lawsuit as politically motivated and affirmed their intention to continue legal challenges.
