Trump and Netanyahu Study Imposing 'Land Blockade' on Iran

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and US President Donald Trump discussed, during their meeting in Washington, options to increase economic pressure on Iran, including a 'land blockade', according to The Telegraph.

According to the report, the proposal is based on pressuring Iran's neighboring countries to restrict or halt land trade movement with Iran across the borders.

The plan also includes targeting commercial supply routes that Iran relies on with neighboring countries, aiming to reduce the flow of goods, imports, and non-oil exports.

It also includes increasing economic pressures without resorting to a large-scale military operation inside Iranian territory.

The newspaper noted that implementing such a plan would require cooperation from countries sharing land borders with Iran, namely: Iraq, Turkey, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan, Afghanistan, and Pakistan.

The newspaper added that the idea was among the options discussed by Trump and Netanyahu as part of exploring new means to pressure Iran and bring it back to negotiations, but it remains under study, and no official adoption or commencement of implementation has been announced.
