Egyptian security agencies thwarted a major attempt to distribute large quantities of narcotics in Ismailia Governorate by arresting a criminal network described by the Interior Ministry as "highly dangerous," confiscating three tons of drugs in their possession.

The Interior Ministry stated in an official release that information and investigations by the Anti-Narcotics, Weapons, and Unlicensed Ammunition Sector, in coordination with relevant security bodies, revealed that the criminal group was bringing in substantial amounts of narcotics in preparation for distribution within Ismailia.

Following the issuance of legal warrants, authorities tracked and targeted the suspects, successfully apprehending them and seizing over three tons of various narcotics, including hashish and the synthetic drug known as "hydro."

The ministry estimated the seized drugs’ market value at approximately 220 million Egyptian pounds. Legal procedures were initiated against the accused, who were referred to the competent investigative authorities to complete the inquiries.

This seizure is part of a series of security operations conducted by the Interior Ministry under its strategy to deliver preemptive strikes against drug trafficking and distribution networks, aiming to dry up the sources of illegal narcotics trade.

In recent years, Egypt has intensified security campaigns against drug smuggling and trafficking networks, especially following the emergence of new synthetic drugs such as "hydro," a derivative of synthetic cannabis noted for its potent effects and rapid spread among youth segments.

The security efforts focus on border crossings and smuggling routes, as well as manufacturing, storage, and distribution hideouts within governorates, as part of a comprehensive plan to curb drug proliferation and pursue organized criminal networks.

Ismailia is among the governorates under continuous security vigilance due to its geographic location linking several governorates, making it a key area for concentrated security monitoring in the fight against drug smuggling and distribution.
