QSD Supreme Commander Mazlum Abdü revealed plans to complete the full integration of his forces into the Syrian army by the end of the current August, stating that the QSD will continue its missions through brigades formed in Kurdish regions led by Kurdish officers.

In an interview with the Kurdish network Rudaw, Abdü explained that the accession process has reached its final stages despite more than half of the forces not having joined yet, noting his preference for changing names and structures to operate within the Syrian military institution rather than using the term "dissolution of forces."

The agreement calls for forming brigades in Qamishli, Al-Hasakah, Derik, and Kobani, with a preliminary understanding to establish a special brigade for fighters from Afrin.

Abdü acknowledged insufficient effort in implementing the March 10 agreement with the Syrian government, calling it "the biggest mistake I have made," while affirming that the January 29, 2026 agreement, although falling short of their aspirations, ensures a place for Kurds within the state and prevents war from breaking out.

Regarding outstanding issues, Abdü emphasized that education in the Kurdish language represents the "key point" in negotiations with Damascus to preserve its distinct identity and constitutional status.

On international alliances, Abdü clarified that Western withdrawal should not be seen as "betrayal," as cooperation was limited solely to fighting the ISIS group, which he warned poses a serious threat due to its current spread across Syrian cities.

Previously, Abdü told Syria's Al-Ikhbariya channel that "one can say the QSD file is closed and the integration process is moving forward steadily since the agreement was initiated," adding that "the integration process is proceeding with full consensus between both sides, with the framework for implementing the agreement and overcoming all obstacles and resolving them."
